About
Grey Dog Books was started in 2020, during the Covid-19 lockdown, as Scottish crime author Ed James decided to rebuild his business and focus on independent publishing.
The name came from the grey dog lying next to him as he worked away – Misty, a retired greyhound. Now sadly missed, but she lives on and is replaced by two black dogs, but that was taken by someone else.
For two years, it was just a field on his books on Amazon, plus a trademark he’d registered. But then he set up a Shopify store to sell print-on-demand books to readers, which has been a bit of a success.
And now, in 2024, he’s turned to publishing books by other authors, starting with Neil Broadfoot, whose McGregor & Drummond thrillers are being repackaged, along with audiobook editions narrated by Angus King.

Well, don’t watch this space as Ed is unlikely to remember to update it. Watch the News page – he’ll update that.
